More about me...

I'm really attracted to all things ethnic, like old beads, folk art, textiles, jewelry, clothing and world music.

I have been playing African marimba music for 7 years and I am in a marimba band.

I spend a lot of time reading books, magazines and websites about ethical business, and sustainable industries.

I am deeply rooted in the environmental and social justice movement.

I enjoy spending time with my family; husband, Doug and two kids Maggie age 13 and Locke age 17. We like to go bird watching.

For the past 15 years I have been a stay-at-home mom, homeschooler and "professional" volunteer.

As a volunteer, I raised money and organized special events for schools and non-profit organizations.

Previous to that I was a forester for 12 years on one of the largest National Forests in the Pacific Northwest.

As a forester, I used to fight forest fires and write plans to replant trees in areas after they had been cut.

I am a fanatic about organic, fairly traded and green products.

Attention: women who read product labels.

Women, are you a huge reader of product ingredients lists like I am? Do you insist on certified organic for your food like I do?

Would you insist on organic for your skin, body care and cosmetics if you knew, like I do, what the other stuff would do to you? I had no idea it would make such a difference.

Even though I have been eating organic food for over 15 years, I never thought much about what I was putting on my skin and body until I learned more about this.

I eat only certified organic and locally grown food and now I use only certified organic skin care.

This is what brought me to these products. First certified organic food, now certified organic skin care products.

All "organic and natural" skin care and mineral make-up products are not created equal. Unless there is an organic certification logo on your product it is not organic. Many mineral make-ups are coated with chemicals (dimethecone) and aluminum.

Make sure you can see a complete ingredients list before you buy any products like this. Without an ingredients lists any claims of natural and organic are not verifiable.

Great resource for learning about products and ingredients is the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep database.

The reason I am in this business is...

I didn't want to be dependent on my husband's income any more.

I want my own money so I can do the things I want to do, like travel to exotic places and donate money to charity.

I wanted to take some of the stress off my husband of being the sole financial support for our family.
